Let’s go back in time and start our history from 1980s. Once upon a time Kaş was a jewel newly discovered by the backpackers and had a proverbial, untouched and charming beauty all out and out…

Kaş was a small fishing town encircled with steep-lands. Because of its tough geographical travelling conditions, tourism was developing around very few curious and determined tourists and the local people who were hosting them sincerely. The hospitality of the local people was and still is the memories the visitors take along on their trip.

As the fishes of turquoise waters, almond leaves reaching out for the sky and salt of the rocks, we are the first people who have opened the doors to the Kaş fans. We were born, grown up and rooted in this region. We, as Kaş people, are a big family being in solidarity with our friends from all over the world since years.

Even though Kaş has extended, developed and changed in years, it has never lost its uniqueness in our eyes. Along this adventure evolved from a sincere small family house to a comfortable boutique hotel prepared regardfully, we never lost our spirit and thrill. Our friends who visit us every year consistently have been a motivation for us to improve our business every passing year. It is of a priceless importance for us that our guests feel themselves as comfortable, safe and peaceful as at home. We hope from the bottom of our hearts that they will find the same warmth and sincerety at Payam Hotel.

There are 21 rooms prepared meticulously in Payam Hotel. Each different type of room has been designed to meet the different needs of our guests. We both offer an unforgettable honeymoon alternative with our suites including jakuzzi to the newly-wed couple, and also the family room alternative with a wide and comfortable living space to the other guests. You can be purified from tiring routines of your life by lying and relaxing in the Jacuzzi or enjoy the calm morning and your coffee on the balcony. If you wish to freshen yourself at morning’s first lights, you can jump in the sparkling water of the swimming pool.

Our hotel provides many other advantages because of its central location which is just a few minutes’ distance from the center of Kaş. If you want to enjoy the sun and the sea, you can go to the beaches each one more beautiful and joyous than the other; you can eat at one of the restaurants offering many delicious alternatives from sea products to Italian kitchen; and you can visit the design boutiques if you want to buy a souvenir for someone or yourself. There are also many other options in Kaş where you can have a refreshing cocktail towards evening or where you can enjoy the rhythm of the music at the wee hours of the night.

Under the shadows of primeval trees

The name of “Payam”, which is widely known as “almond”, was born and grew up in the heart of this region. It is a hardshell fruit of a 6-8 meter tree which is one of the vast rosaceae plant family and its species are used widely in our kitchen. Surrounding villages turn into a painting by its white and light pink flowers blooming in spring. Payam (almond) became one of the most important source of income for these villages in years. Going through the rooted cultures’ legends and myths, we can see that almond has a great importance and meaning in the survival history of human being for thousands of years. For example, almond is the tree of life for Phrygians; it stands for resurrection. It also symbolises of being non-persistent and temporary, since it is influenced by cold winds and frosts easily and defoliates.

Similar to other Mediterranean beauties grape, olive and date palm, almond is one of the most ancient trees domesticated in the old world. Since carbonated wild almonds were found during Çayönü, Hallan Çemi Tepesi (8000 B.C.) and Çatalhöyük – Hacılar excavations and they were also found in the Mediterranean Sea Watershed, there we can find an evidence that almond has an ancient history in Anatolia. Wild almond was also being picked up in Mesolithic and Neolithic Ages. The historians inferred by evaluating various scientific data that almond had been domesticated at the east side of the Mediterranean Sea Watershed approximately in 3000 B.C. at the latest.

The usage area of almond in the kitchens dates back to medieval Arabian kitchen before hundreds of years. Because of this fact, the undeniable importance of our neighbor Iran’s success in kitchen is not a coincidence today. The marzipan has been produced and consumed especially by Arabs and Jews commonly and this tradition still goes on. The marzipan is one of the many products made of almond which is a delicious and nutritious oilseed. Almond is used for many different areas like sorbet, compote, some sauces, cookies, cakes and ice-cream in classical Turkish kitchen.
